5 fashion designer Facts

What do you think about Fashion Designers?

We talked about fashion already… but what about who is behind the business?

Here I will tell you some “secrets” so you can understand us better. Please, let me know if you need some more facts later on... ha ha

1.- We don’t dress like models or movie stars. (at least not every day)

- Yes, we often hear the question, why are Fashion Designers normally the worst dressed at their fashion show? OK people… we are working! We have to run from one corner to another 10 times every five minutes! We don’t sleep an entire week before the show, and we even forget to eat. We even forget to look at a mirror or at our feet to look if we have the same color of converse on our two feet.  So no, we are not much aware of the way we look at the show. Sorry for that. Tiffany (click here to see her post), don’t feel bad because someone told you don´t look like at a designer, that means you really look like one… ha ha

2.- We like original and authentic stuff.

-In a city like Shanghai, you can have everything fake. There’s even a fake market!!! (OMG). For designers to buy face is like for people to steel a facebook profile. We respect other people’s work and if we can’t afford it, we rather not buy it.  We prefer to spend on authentic designs. And it is even better if a friend design the piece.

3.- We work, even when it doesn’t look like we are working.

- Yes, looking at a white wall for three hours may be work for us. You can’t show what’s happening in your head but believe me, if we get stuck and just look at “nothing” we are looking at a whole universe in our minds.  

4.- We have fun while working.

-       Dancing, singing, telling lots of jokes, have a nice chat with your team. This is something that happens a lot in ateliers, fashion shows and photo shoots.  Sometimes even beer is allowed ha ha..

5.- We are dreaming 80% of our lifetime.

-       This does not only mean that we like to sleep long, but we are actually very romantic dreamers. We dream about our new collections and looks. If we get inspiration from another era, we actually try to be there in our “awake dreams”. Sometimes we really get of the world for more than 2 days. This stage is like being in a coma. If you tell us something in this “mind-status”, don’t feel bad if we don’t remember even that we met… we were probably not really there with you…

Maho, I LOVE your post!! It's spoken out so from the bottom of your heart and I can feel you passion for what you (and all the other designers) DO.
Even I am not designing for others, I do for myself. And it starts with all the little impressions you get from wondering around and looking at people - just call it LIFE. And than I go to my wardrobe, where also self created pieces from the fabric market are part of, and I mix them together - and here we go: That's my design / my style - ME.

Uhhh!
I sometimes I cildnt take a bath!!!
My nails always look terrible , I have paint all over my face , My fingers have Injuries from the neddles!
I am ALWAYS day dreaming! If you are talking to me , I might not be paying attention!
I am very picky with what I wear! but more about the quality..
Working in the creative areas are the best! drinks , smoking , having fun! I miss it soooo muchh! and we always get the work done!

I totally agree with you! Especially after meeting that jerk I told you guys :P (nahh.. he actually made me understand what fashion is to me!) I'd always wanted to be a fashion designer, but I just can't draw haha! But I really admire fashion designers, they spice up our lives! They are like the coolest people in the world! So Maho, keep up with your good work! I look forward to your products!! I'm buying them ;)
